This show was almost entirely pulled from stock with a few, very minor adjustments. The unit set had a “Radio Studio” area (the desk downstage right,) set decoration fill in the corners, and an open performance space in the middle. The background set dressing was loosely selected by the designer, arranged by props, and then adjusted by the ATD/PM. There was only one prop brought from off stage. This is a two actor show, with one mostly staying in the “Radio Studio.”
Original desk, before adjustments in rehearsals. Wanted to start off with lots of toys for the actor to play with, since the script is not specific.
Note period filled trash can and period confirmed records. Inside of the drawers was also dressed and help some additional hand props.
Collaborated with a local radio station to borrow period appropriate broadcasting equipment. Dressing height needed to be considered for visibility since he spends most of the show sitting behind it.
Final desk dressing onstage. Collaborated with lighting to make an old "On Air" sign functional with a small button on the back. Painted the coffee maker to avoid the stark white.
Dressed all the cords and added some extra. Trash can redressed so that faux cigarette butts could be easily dumped and retrieved. Ashtray also features fake ash made of acrylic paint, sawdust and glue.
Recreated Aspirin bottle, fill with mints. Originally made for Beautiful Carol King, but cut and then reused here. This was the only consumable for this show.
